MORE GENERAL OR MISCELLANEOUS PROJECTS...JUST BECAUSE
This section is for those projects that don't really have a specific category and are of the type that are built "just because". To elaborate, there are things out there that we can build that if we did a fast search for them we would find some commercially made version of the same device either in a regular store or an online medium, usually for cheaper than what the parts would cost to build the same device from scratch at home. This isn't about projects that you shouldn't waste time doing, this is about projects that you can build just because you happen to have the materials laying around the house and feel like throwing something together that you can put to use around the homestead. Old school DIY'ers would take random stuff to build things that they can use because at one time we did not have the kind of markets that we have today where just about any conceivable device has been produced in multiple formats for cheaper, sometimes smaller and more efficient than anything we can make.
Only problem here is that with this ready availability of gadgets, it stifles that old school creativity that we once had where we can throw together something from nothing. The incentive is gone when most people can and would much rather just click and order a particular device versus spending all day throwing the same device together from gathered parts. We just want to be able to show that creativity is not dead, even in this small sense. Just being able to show to one's self that they have that creative gene where they can create anything they set their mind to, these gadgets allow one to get those creative juices flowing where they may be motivated to go out there and build something even if it does cost a little more than a ready made version of the same thing. You can have the satisfaction of knowing you took the time and brain energy to throw something together that can serve you for a long time.
As we rekindle that old school creativity by throwing together practical gadgets from random stuff we find around the homestead, they will be documented here. We'll point out the probable flaws that may exist with some of these devices compared to commercially made versions but still show how one can still create despite any inconsistencies. In the end this is one of those "labors of love" as many of these gadgets will have components that we may have had to supplement from newly bought materials added to the already stocked items we have, making them even more expensive in the long run. It won't matter though, so just sit back and enjoy the homemade gadgets as they pop up.
